However, as development progressed, the site footprint expanded. Construction of the adjacent water storage facility and the planned compressor station began to encroach on—and fundamentally change—the emissions landscape and airflow patterns relative to the original monitor locations.

As a result, the initial siting no longer fully represented the combined downwind impacts of all active and planned sources. To maintain data quality and relevance, one set of the monitors needed to be relocated.

The PM2.5 BAM monitor and passive BTEX sampler have now been re-sited to capture downwind conditions from all three activity areas—the drilling pad, water storage facility, and compressor station—rather than a single component of the operation. This updated placement ensures more comprehensive coverage of the entire operational footprint, improving our ability to evaluate cumulative impacts and providing a more complete picture of site-related air quality. \u200b It is also aligned with the monitoring protocol established by Clean Air.
\n <figure\n class=\"release-content-image release-content-image--contained release-content-image--align-center\"\n >\n <a class=\"release-content-image__link\"\n id=\"image-d336796a-90a5-435b-a3ea-1cc2f9c0c38c\"\n href=\"https://www.cnx.com/wellpad/mam15-complex/\"\n data-id=\"d336796a-90a5-435b-a3ea-1cc2f9c0c38c\"\n data-track=\"Story Image View\"\n data-placement=\"content\"\n target=\"_blank\"\n rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"\n style=\"width: 100%\"\n >\n <img\n class=\"release-content-image__image\"\n src=\"https://cdn.uc.assets.prezly.com/d336796a-90a5-435b-a3ea-1cc2f9c0c38c/-/resize/1200x/-/format/auto/\"\n alt=\"The MAM15 Complex is a commingled facility consisting of a well pad, an adjacent water storage facility, and an adjacent compressor station, located in Bell Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.\"\n srcset=\"https://cdn.uc.assets.prezly.com/d336796a-90a5-435b-a3ea-1cc2f9c0c38c/-/resize/1200x/-/format/auto/ 1x, https://cdn.uc.assets.prezly.com/d336796a-90a5-435b-a3ea-1cc2f9c0c38c/-/resize/2400x/-/format/auto/ 2x\"\n >\n \n
The MAM15 Complex is a commingled facility consisting of a well pad, an adjacent water storage facility, and an adjacent compressor station, located in Bell Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.
\n
\n
More importantly, this decision is grounded in U.S. EPA ambient air monitoring guidance under 40 CFR Part 58, specifically:

- Appendix D (Network Design Criteria), which requires that monitor placement align with the intended monitoring objective and spatial representativeness, and be reassessed as site conditions or emission sources change.

- Appendix E (Probe and Monitoring Path Siting Criteria), which emphasizes that monitors must be located to collect representative ambient air data and that siting criteria should be followed to the maximum extent practicable, recognizing that adjustments may be necessary as real-world conditions evolve.

In plain terms, EPA expects monitoring networks to be dynamic—not static. When site conditions change, as they did at MAM15, operators are expected to re-evaluate and, if needed, reposition monitors to ensure the data remains representative and scientifically defensible.

So, the move at MAM15 wasn’t just about accommodating construction—it was about maintaining alignment with EPA’s regulatory framework (40 CFR Part 58, Appendices D and E) and ensuring that our monitoring continues to deliver accurate, meaningful, and holistic data for the full scope of site activity.

Latest Context Corner
<div id=\"story-bookmark-5cd38a01-8f2f-4e22-bfa8-4dd270523597\"\n class=\"release-content-story-bookmark release-content-story-bookmark--horizontal\">\n\n <a class=\"release-content-story-bookmark__thumbnail\"\n href=\"https://www.positiveenergyhub.com/understanding-radiation-and-natural-gas-development\"\n rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"\n target=\"_blank\" style=\"background-image: url(https://prezly.imgix.net/https%3A%2F%2Fcdn.uc.assets.prezly.com%2F75c8a0ed-1ebb-4373-b0e5-6df71cb42f60%2F-%2Fpreview%2F600x600%2F?ar=1%3A1&fit=crop&s=2b7ec384b95493d8a2326089ca1a1710)\"\n >\n \n
\n\n <a class=\"release-content-story-bookmark__title\"\n href=\"https://www.positiveenergyhub.com/understanding-radiation-and-natural-gas-development\"\n rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"\n target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"story-bookmark\"\n data-track=\"Story StoryBookmark Click\"\n data-placement=\"content\"\n data-id=\"5cd38a01-8f2f-4e22-bfa8-4dd270523597\"\n >\n Understanding Radiation and Natural Gas Development \n \n
\n Context Corner Edition 17
\n \n <a href=\"https://www.positiveenergyhub.com/\"\n target=\"_blank\"\n rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"\n class=\"release-content-story-bookmark__provider\"\n >\n \n www.positiveenergyhub.com \n
\n
\n<div id=\"story-bookmark-2fdc1096-67e0-4455-8513-8cefb01d4cd8\"\n class=\"release-content-story-bookmark release-content-story-bookmark--horizontal\">\n\n <a class=\"release-content-story-bookmark__thumbnail\"\n href=\"https://www.positiveenergyhub.com/commitment-to-transparency-a-deep-dive-into-cnxs-water-quality-program-at-nv110\"\n rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"\n target=\"_blank\" style=\"background-image: url(https://prezly.imgix.net/https%3A%2F%2Fcdn.uc.assets.prezly.com%2Fac2f5e9d-ba59-4e53-98cb-117c5a60ffa8%2F-%2Fpreview%2F600x600%2F?ar=1%3A1&fit=crop&s=85856914136643b9a02bd823231c1989)\"\n >\n \n
\n\n <a class=\"release-content-story-bookmark__title\"\n href=\"https://www.positiveenergyhub.com/commitment-to-transparency-a-deep-dive-into-cnxs-water-quality-program-at-nv110\"\n rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"\n target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"story-bookmark\"\n data-track=\"Story StoryBookmark Click\"\n data-placement=\"content\"\n data-id=\"2fdc1096-67e0-4455-8513-8cefb01d4cd8\"\n >\n Commitment to Transparency: A Deep Dive into CNX\u2019s Water Quality Program at NV110 \n \n
\n Context Corner Edition 16
\n \n <a href=\"https://www.positiveenergyhub.com/\"\n target=\"_blank\"\n rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"\n class=\"release-content-story-bookmark__provider\"\n >\n \n www.positiveenergyhub.com \n
\n
\n

",
