The UPMC/CNX M.O.V.E.S. partnership is underway with the Mentorship Academy! On this week’s Path Forward episode, students on the healthcare career track visit UPMC Magee-Womens hospital to learn how they help communities across Appalachia.
The site visit to UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital marks the inaugural partnership activation for students to explore careers in healthcare. UPMC and CNX’s collaboration will foster the students’ professional growth and fulfill increasing staffing needs impacting healthcare facilities across the region. Dr. Richard Beigi, UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital President, shared industry insight with the students and mentors to demonstrate how important it is for interested students to find their place in the field.
“We have numerous career ladders and disciplines across the whole healthcare occupation field,” said Dr. Richard Beigi. “If people come in motivated and want to develop themselves, there are endless opportunities. The mentorship at UPMC is unparalleled.”
The motivation to succeed, make a difference and improve Appalachia First lives within the Mentorship Academy’s aspiring healthcare professionals. Every person requires healthcare at some point in their lives, emphasizing the demand for well-staffed facilities and systems in the Appalachian Basin. Through the M.O.V.E.S. partnership, Mentorship Academy students engage in experiential learning that bring out skills and interests they might not have discovered otherwise.
“Today was really eye opening for me,” said Verletha Kenny, Mentorship Academy participant and Sto-Rox Senior High School student. “It gave me a better idea of what I want to do.”
